What are they?

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts that retain the natural smell and flavour, or “essence,” of their source. These oils are obtained through distillation or mechanical methods like cold pressing. The unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its characteristic essence. Essential oils are not meant to be swallowed and are used in soap to give it its characteristic aroma.
What do they do?
There are over 90 types of essential oils, each with its own smell and potential health benefits. The benefits of essential oils include their ability to boost mood, improve sleep, reduce anxiety and pain, and even have antibacterial and antifungal properties. However, the evidence for many of these claims is inconclusive, and some are controversial. It’s important to use essential oils safely.

In summary, essential oils are a popular component of alternative medicine, valued for their aromatic and potential therapeutic properties. While they offer a natural approach to health and well-being, it’s crucial to use them responsibly and be aware of their limitations and the need for more research to substantiate many of the health claims associated with them. And mostly… They smell great!

Hey Birgit,
We love your body butter and want to send to a friend who’s recovering from an operation.
Do you sell your body butters online too?
birgit.thull
Hello Lindsay,
I am glad you like the body butter. I will sell the body butters via the website from September. They melt if they get over 30 degrees C and I am worried they may melt in the back of the post van at the moment. If you are living locally I do sell them at the St Just Market on Saturdays, 9.30am to 12.30 pm, in the WI Hall, opposite the church. Email me on birgit@birgitssoapbar.co.uk if you want to risk the post.
