Fragrance oil adventures

Having so far only used essential oils in my soap making I am now experimenting with fragrance oils. Two reasons. One is customer demand and the other is curiosity.

Main difference between Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils is:
– Essential Oils are extracted from one plant. They are essentially the same, regardless of the producer.
– Fragrance Oils are mixed from various things (often essential oils but not only) by people. The recipes are trade secrets. But there are vegan and allergen free products out there. On labels they are referred to as ‘perfum’.

I am working on developing shaving soap (more on this soon) and one of my human volunteer testers, aka Guinea pigs, mentioned that his favourite shaving cream smells of baby powder. And, sure enough, there is lots of Baby Powder Fragance Oil to be had. Vegan as well. Made a shaving soap and a salt bar (more on that next year) and everyone loves the scent. It’s very comforting. Bought mine from Freshskin who are one of my go-to essential oil suppliers.

I am also still searching for that elusive rose scent that will stick with soap so trying one from Naturally Balmy.

I will definitely use the Baby Powder one. It’s lovely. Will see how the Rose one works out. If anyone has any ideas or a favourite fragrance let me know.
