If you use soap you will get soap scum. There is no way around it. Soap scum forms when soap combines with minerals in your water, mostly calcium and magnesium. The harder your water the more soap scum. You will notice this more if you have used liquid shower gel and shampoo for years. They produce far less soap scum as they contain chemicals to ‘soften’ your water. Here is a great article from an Australian Soap site called Soap Cult on all things soap scum.

To get rid of soap scum you will have to clean. Here are a couple of ways to do this:
1. Use a Mixture of Vinegar and Washing up liquid
One of the most efficient soap scum cleaning methods is vinegar and dish soap. All you have to do is pour equal amounts of water and vinegar into a bottle. Then, add a few drops of washing up liquid and apply the mixture to the spots of scum on your walls.
Leave the mixture to settle for a few minutes, then scrub the spots with a brush. Finally, rinse all the residue using warm water. The surface should be clean and scum-free!
2. Use a Mixture of Vinegar and Baking Soda
Another easy way to clean your bathroom walls is by using a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. Mix a cup of baking soda and a tablespoon of vinegar in a bowl, and stir them till they form a paste.
Then, use a clean rug or sponge to apply the paste to the shower walls and leave it there for a while. Finally, rinse the residue off and dry the clean walls with a rug.
3. Use any bathroom cleaner
They are, after all, designed to clean bathrooms. If they don’t get rid of soap scum you should get your money back.
